Joan Theresa Fornberg, 64, Ellendale

Funeral services for Joan T. Fornberg, age 64, of rural Ellendale will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. Rev. Linda Gunderson will officiate. Interment will be in North Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the Bayview/Freebom Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joan died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.

Joan Theresa Fornberg was born Dec. 30, 1937, to Ray and Verna (Lisson) Steiner in St. Paul. She attended school in St. Paul and graduated from Wilson High School. After graduation, Joan worked for Brown/Bigelow. In March of 1965 she was united in marriage to Paul Fornberg in St. Louis. The couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and in 1967 to Ellendale and began farming. Joan enjoyed spending time at home. She was a very talented decorator and enjoyed music. Joan and Paul had been members of North Freeborn Lutheran Church where she had been active in the Ladies’ Circles. They were also members of the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; sons: Ed Fornberg and his wife Becky of Walnut Grove, Eric Fornberg of Albert Lea, and John Fornberg of Ellendale; daughter, Darla Matthees and her husband Dave of Owatonna; six grandchildren: Justin and Brandon Hagen, Jennifer Matthees, Holly Fornberg, and Tony and Lindsay Fornberg; brother, Jerry Steiner of St. Paul; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special aunt, Rita Frazier.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Leonard; brother, Greg; and sister, Phyllis.
