Funeral services for Olga Bergetta Thompson, age 82, of Albert Lea, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. The Rev. Joel Xavier will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 27, from 6-9 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Ellendale. Interment will be at St. Ansgar Cemetery in rural Ellendale.

She died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home in Albert Lea.

Olga was born April 20, 1920, in Bergen, Norway, to Olai and Bergetta Underland. She immigrated to America with her family in 1923. Initially, the family settled on a farm in South Dakota. They later resettled on a farm in the Geneva area. Olga and her nine brothers and sisters attended schools in Steele County.

In 1936 Olga married Arnold M. Thompson. Together the couple had six children. After their marriage, they pioneered an undeveloped 160 acre farm east of Ellendale. Later Olga and Arnold moved to San Diego, Calif., where Arnold was a masonry contractor. While in San Diego, the couple attended St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church. Olga remained in San Diego until 1998 when she returned to Albert Lea.

Olga was an avid gardener who delighted in beautifying her home and garden with a wide variety of plantings. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed preparing and assisting in many family gatherings.

She is survived by four daughters and one son: Sherry Knapp and husband Leslie of Cave Junction, Ore., Donna Tanner and husband Chuck of Albert Lea, Karen Bony and husband Mark of Cave Junction, Ore., Debra DuBois of Cornelius, N.C., and Jeffrey Thompson and wife Kathryn of Red Bluff, Calif. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; as well as three sisters and one brother: Minda Jorgensen, Borgny Agurkis, Olai Underland Jr. and Sonja Thompsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gene; grandson, Andrew Tanner; and four brothers and one sister: Elmer, Einar, Alice, Alfred and Marvin.

Olga will be dearly missed by all.
