Spikers struggle with USC

In games one and two, the momentum changed hands several times between the Albert Lea and United South Central volleyball teams.

It was all Rebels the rest of the way.

Visiting USC rallied for a 3-1 nonconference victory Tuesday night, winning 13-15, 17-15, 15-2, 15-2.

&uot;It’s like we just lost our mental focus and let the last two games go by us,&uot; said Tigers coach Gina Eppen. &uot;The first two games I saw some real good volleyball.&uot;

Whitney Sorenson had another good match for the Tigers, totaling 15 kills, 16 digs, five blocks and two assists.

Other statistical leaders: Leah Boyer 15 assists, 13 digs, three kills; Ashley Chrz 18 assists, seven kills, five digs, three blocks, two aces; Christina Berggren nine digs, six kills, two blocks; Danielle Rankin 15 digs; Jenny Hovendick 16 digs.

Eppen said the Tigers’ serving was down, 70-for-84, with all five aces coming in the first two games.

The Tigers, 1-2, travel to Owatonna for their Big Nine opener Thursday.
