Albert Lea High School students gather around the ALHS letters

that were set on fire Thursday night in the Hammer Field parking

lot. The Albert Lea Fire Department set the letters on fire, as

well as a bonfire, and maintained both fires. Albert Lea High

School has been celebrating its homecoming this week, with the

homecoming football game being played tonight at 7 p.m. at Hammer

Field. Before the game, at 6 p.m., local political candidates

will hold a press conference at the football field to announce

their positions on the proposed Albert Lea excess-levy referendum,

which is on the Nov. 5 general-election ballot. Those participating

will be Sen. Grace Schwab, R-Albert Lea; Democratic state senate

candidate Dan Sparks of Austin; Rep. Dan Dorman, R-Albert Lea;

Democratic state house candidate Allen Halvorsen of Albert Lea;

and Albert Lea mayoral candidates Mark Anderson and Jean Eaton.
