GLENVILLE &045; There was a good reason the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines struggled to get their offense going.
They barely had the football.
Visiting Grand Meadow dominated the first half and cruised in the second, handing the Wolverines a 48-7 loss at Glenville Friday night.
&uot;It seemed like it was 20-0 before we got the ball,&uot; said coach Ryan Wangen, whose team fell to 1-2 in conference play and 1-3 overall. &uot;They ran a lot of plays in the first quarter. We couldn’t get the football.&uot;
The SuperLarks (2-1, 3-1) scored on their opening drive and scored again after recovering a fumble on the Wolverines’ first possession. Then they recovered an on-side kick and tacked on another touchdown and went on to score on every possession in the second quarter.
&uot;They’re tough,&uot; said Wangen. &uot;They pounded the ball at us. They are strong and athletic.&uot;
The Wolverines scored in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Kris Knutson. Tim Westland kicked the PAT.
The Wolverines were outrushed 277-83 and outgained 319-137.
Knutson ran for 39 yards on nine carries. Mike Yocom, 4-for-11 passing for 25 yards and two interceptions, rushed for 17 yards on five attempts. Knutson caught three passes for 16 yards. Cole Thompson had a 26-yard reception.
Derek Lau led the defense with 15 tackles. Knutson had nine tackles, Jake Hansen and Tony Walk six apiece.
&uot;Lau played a tough game,&uot; said Wangen.
The Wolverines travel to Alden-Conger this Friday.
