Rachel Ann Long Corwin Hawkins, 95, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Rachel Ann Long Corwin Hawkins will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at Church of Christ, Christian in Albert Lea. The Rev. Mike Gerhardt will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Rachel died on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea where she had lived for the past two years. She was 95 years old.
Rachel was born Aug. 14, 1907, four miles south of Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Wilmie Grace (Lillibridge) Long. At the age of four Rachel moved with her family to Rudd, Iowa, and at age seven, north of Clear Lake, Iowa. She attended rural school through eighth grade and was a graduate of Clear Lake High School. She received normal school training in 1925 and taught rural school for two years.
On June 4, 1927, Rachel was married to Wieland Wickliffe (W.W. &uot;Bill&uot;) Corwin. They lived in Clear Lake, Iowa; Mason City, Iowa; rural Goodell, Iowa; back to Clear Lake, Iowa; and then Albert Lea in 1948. Bill preceded Rachel in death in 1957. Following Bill’s death she lived for one year in Harlan, Iowa and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. She moved to Albert Lea where she worked for Queen Products for 10-1/2 years, retiring in 1970. She married Harold W. Hawkins on June 30, 1967 and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Rachel grew up in the Mason City Christian Church where she was baptized into Christ in 1919. She was a charter member of the Clear Lake Christian Church and of the Albert Lea Church of Christ (Christian).
Rachel is survived by two children: Grace McCord and her husband, Lynn of Harlen, Iowa and Roger Corwin and his wife, Marge of St. Louis Park; step-daughter, Rosalie Hawkins of Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Wieland Wickliffe Corwin and Harold W. Hawkins; two brothers; two sisters; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
