ALHS girls fall to Century

So far on the young season, the third quarter has not been bad for the Albert Lea High School girls’ basketball team.

It’s been unbelievably bad.

After going scoreless in the third quarter of a season-opening loss to Waseca, the Tigers managed only one point in the third Friday night while falling 42-28 to Rochester Century in their Big Nine opener at ALHS.

“We just haven’t shot the ball in the third quarter,” said Tigers coach Karol Hansen, who cited several positives.

“It’s frustrating we lost, but it’s encouraging because the potential is there,” said Hansen. “We’re not turning the ball over, we’re playing some nice aggressive defense. We just need some cohesiveness on the court, we need to build some confidence.”

Especially with shooting. The Tigers were 4-for-27 on two-point field goals, 5-for-19 on threes and 5-for-8 at the free-throw line.

“Overall, we shot 20 percent,” said Hansen. “It’s not about shot selection. We’re just not putting the ball in the hole.”

Amy Ravenhorst led the Tigers in scoring with 10 points. Jess Hanson scored eight, Nicole Rafdal six, Ashley Helgerson three, Jenny Hovendick one.

The Tigers are home again Tuesday against Owatonna.
