David John Sauke, Boone, Iowa

A memorial service was held at Ames, Iowa on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 for David John Sauke, who died suddenly of a heart attack at his Boone, Iowa home.

David was born in Albert Lea on Oct. 5 to John and Pearl (Behle) Sauke. They moved to Ames, where David graduated from high school and studied architecture and art at Iowa State University. He was an accomplished artist in graphics, painting, wood cuts, printmaking and wood sculpture, and won many honors and awards. He was also a carpenter, and built his own home and art studio.

Surviving him are his parents, John and Pearl Sauke; partner Kim McDermott and her son Justus; brother and sisters Neil Sauke (and Lisa Hein), Valerie and Dean Cadwell, and Jonelle Bishop; nephews Benjamin and Jacob Cadwell and Andy Bishop; aunts Irene Hackbart, Shirley Roison, and Gloria Sauke; and great-aunt Gladys Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and aunt Marva Lundberg.

David had his earliest training in art from Lloyd Herfindahl.
