Mabel Eidahl, 94, Owatonna

Mabel Eidahl passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Cedarview Nursing Home, Owatonna.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Todd Walsh officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the funeral at Grace Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea, immediately following the service.

Mabel (Knutson) Eidahl was born June 19, 1908, on her rural family home south of Emmons to John E. and Bolette (Haugsdal) Knutson. She was baptized by the Rev. P. G. Ostby and confirmed by the Rev. O. T. Storaasli at Emmons Lutheran Church, Emmons. She attended rural Rovang school in Worth County and Lake Mills, Iowa, high school. After school she worked for Dr. K. I. Rosheim for several years.

On June 10, 1931, she was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Eidahl at Emmons Lutheran Church, Emmons. After marriage they lived in Leland, Iowa, until 1942 when they moved to Albert Lea. When they first moved to Albert Lea they belonged to First Lutheran Church. When Grace Lutheran was started on the north side of Albert Lea, Mabel, Kenneth and family became charter members of Grace Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, and was active in mission circle, ladies aid and Bible study.

In 1950 they moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, and owned and operated Kenny’s Lunch. In 1955 they moved back to Albert Lea. Mabel worked at Skinner Chamberlain, Albert Lea Bakery, Land O Lakes, and as a nursing assistant at several local nursing homes. Mabel loved spending time with her family and friends, loved nature and animals of all kinds. She especially loved music and playing the piano. She was a devout Christian and will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit.

Mabel is survived by her son, Konrad and his wife Javonne of Emmons; daughters: Katherine and her husband Luther Hermanson of Lester Prairie, Minn., and Marcia Kay and her husband Richard Ferguson of Owatonna; grandchildren: Kyle (Carol) Eidahl, Pamela (Tim) Christensen, David (Lynn) Eidahl, Brenda (Tim) Schmitz, Patrice (Jody) Hocking, Lucienne (David) Wurster, Karalee (James) Byl, Troy Folven and Melanie (David) Morrison; great-grandchildren: Jessica Mann, Cara (Justin) Muth, Daniel Mann, Lindsey, Stephanie and Alexandra Schmitz, Stephanie, Matthew and Cody Christensen, Marcus and Christian Eidahl, Jessica (Justin) Maalis and Mandra (Chris) Peterson, Dylan and Madison Wurster, Bryce, and Mariah and Megan Byl; great-great-grandson, James David Maalis; one sister, Burnette Grunhovd of Albert Lea; one sister-in-law, Dorris Knutson of River Bend, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth, in 1972; three brothers: Albert, Eddie and Roy; two sisters: Alma Herfendal and Bernice Knutson; daughter-in-law, Barbara Eidahl; and grandson, Mark Eidahl.
