Weekend Planner: Fund raisers, Oklahoma! on tap this weekend

A benefit luncheon for Kevin Whelan will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in Luther Hall of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 320 W. College St., Albert Lea. Whelan is undergoing treatment for lymphoma. The menu includes scalloped potatoes and ham, corn, assorted salads, dinner rolls and bars. A freewill offering will be received. Donations, marked for the Kevin Whelan Fund, may be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The event is sponsored by the Our Savior’s Lutheran Fellowship Club with some donations by Thrivent Financial Services (Aid Association for Lutherans).

Friday, Nov. 22

– A holiday grand wine tasting, sponsored by Fountain Warehouse Liquor, will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Days Inn. There will be over 60 different wines to taste, and wine company representatives will be on hand. There will also be hors d’ouevres and a silent auction. Cost is $10 per person. Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Freeborn County.

– The Albert Lea High School production of &uot;Oklahoma!&uot; will be presented in the Albert Lea High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. They are now on sale at all Andersen Hallmark stores. They will also be available at the door on performance nights.

Saturday, Nov. 23

– The Humane Society of Freeborn County will hold an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5-8 p.m. at the American Legion. Tickets can be purchased from the Humane Society or at the door. Cost is $7 per person.

Sunday, Nov. 24

– The 2002 Christmas Tour of Homes, hosted by the Glenville-Emmons Post-Prom Committee, will be held from 2-6 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 on the day of the tour. They may be purchased in Albert Lea at all three Andersen Hallmark Stores and Sue’s Painting Post; in Emmons at Emmons State Bank and Lair’s Station; and in Glenville at Citizens State Bank, Glenville Shortstop and The Office Bar. There are five homes on the tour.

– Northbridge Mall will hold a holiday fashion show at 3 p.m. in center court.
