Ada Katherine Westland, 90, Minneapolis

Funeral services for Ada Katherine Westland, age 90, will be held Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2730 E. 31st St., Minneapolis. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Hayward Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ada died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, in Minneapolis.

Ada Katherine Westland was born June 11, 1912, near Hanlontown, Iowa, to Gilbert and Minnie Kaasa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her parents moved to Kennedy, Minn., where she attended grade school. In 1925, they moved near Clarks Grove. Ada graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1929. She was a rural school teacher for nine years. June 12, 1938, Ada was united in marriage to Sherley Theodore Westland at the East Freeborn Lutheran Church. In 1943, they moved to Minneapolis. Following the death of her husband, Ada moved to the Trinity Apartments in Minneapolis. She was active in many activities at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Hiawatha Seniors.

Ada is survived by two sisters: Marjorie Jensen of Albert Lea, and Helen Kaisersatt of St. Peter; one brother, Melvin Kaasa and his wife Dorothy of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and four brothers: Gordon, Kenneth, Orton, and Robert Kaasa.
