They want pins.
&uot;It’s really fun to watch them right now because they’re so aggressive,&uot; said Goodnature. &uot;They’re going for the fall all the time, and it showed tonight.&uot;
The Tigers won two matches by fall and two by technical fall Thursday while defeating Lakeville 45-15 in a nonconference dual meet at Northfield. A scheduled second dual meet with the host team was postponed until next Thursday, when both squads are at Rochester John Marshall.
Goodnature, whose team improved to 4-2 in duals, said the Lakeville meet was key for individual and team seeding in the section tournament.
&uot;We wanted to go out and wrestled well, and the kids really did,&uot; said the coach. &uot;They’re wrestling real hard right now.&uot;
The results, by weight: 119 pounds, Matt Morris won 10-0; 125, Alex Hansen won 11-2 major decision; 130, Nate Goodnature lost 7-2; 135, Neal Underdahl won 5-0; 140, Adam Elseth won 20-5 tech fall; 145, Jake Levisen lost by fall, 5:56; 152, Dustin Eggum lost 16-14 in overtime; 160, Cory Frerk won 17-5 major decision; 171, Jared Butler lost 4-1; 189, Mike Honeycutt won 8-0 major decision; 215, Randy Larson won 7-5 in overtime; 275, Chris Hable won by fall, 1:32; 103, Zach Hansen won by fall, 1:07; 112, Josh Hansen won 15-0 tech fall.
Eggum, who last week beat the No. 3 rated wrestler in Class AA, nearly knocked off Class AAA’s fourth-rated individual.
The Tigers were still without four starters.
The Albert Lea junior varsity won 48-21. Winners were Darrin Honeycutt, 119; Taylor Ignaszewski, 125; Tim Frazier, 140; Josh Wilkie, 145; Alex Paul, 152; Levi Hughes, 160; Ben Berhow, 171; Tony Malepsy, 275; Eric Johnson, 103; Jake Cibert, 112. Eight of the victories were by fall.
The Tigers host Mankato West in a Big Nine dual meet tonight.
