Salvation Army looking for more volunteers

The weather is cold, Christmas decorations are up throughout the city, and the sound of bells is back at entrances to hot shopping spots across Albert Lea.
The Salvation Army has started up its annual kettle campaign, stationing volunteer bell-ringers at four locations to collect donations in those familiar red pots.
The organization is still looking for volunteers to fill out its roster for the holiday season. Many people and groups who often volunteer have already signed up, but there are still slots available, especially during the day and on Dec. 23 and 24, said the Rev. Sandra Tonsing, who is coordinating the bell-ringing campaign this year under new captains Bob and Margaret Miles.
&uot;It’s the spirit,&uot; she said. &uot;It’s people who want to share and greet and I guess be sociable.&uot;
During the daytime hours, when many volunteers are working or at school, many of the two-hour slots are still open, and on Dec. 23 and 24, when Christmas is near, it’s harder to find volunteers, Tonsing said.
The Salvation Army runs the kettle campaign Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Albert Lea locations are Hy-Vee, Rainbow Foods, ShopKo and Wal-Mart.
