Veryl Reed, 81, Hollandale

The funeral service for Veryl Reed of Hollandale will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Hollandale Conservative Congregational Church. The Rev. William Bankester will officiate. Interment will be in the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation win be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before at the church.

Veryl died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. He was 81 years old.

Veryl was born in Estherville, Iowa, on Dec. 7, 1921, the son of Bruce and Bertha (Peterson) Reed. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1939 and attend Mankato State College for one year. He was in the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific for three years and also during the Korean War. Veryl was married on March 27,1947, to Iris Van Beek in Hollandale. Veryl had lived in Hollandale all his life. He was a member of the Hollandale Conservative Congregational Church. He also served as Sunday school superintendent, on the church board and song leader. He farmed most of his life in the Hollandale area.

Veryl was a member of the American Legion, Southern Minnesota Sugar Beets Association, and loved spending time on his farm.

Veryl is survived by his wife, Iris; children: sons: Daryl Reed and family of Hollandale, Dean Reed and wife Doreen of Hollandale, and children: Alyssa Beth, and Bridget; daughter: Marsha Van Wyngeeren and husband Rick of Brainerd, and children, Dinah and Grant; sisters: Phyliss Cole of Crystal Beach, Fla., and Lois Jean Davis of Norman, Okla.; and brother, Bruce Reed of Rochester.

Veryl was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Robert Reed.
