Residents will not have to drive downtown to see how the new courthouse construction is going. Instead, they can watch it through the Internet, day and night.
Adolfson & Peterson Construction, which was hired by the county to oversee the project, placed a remote-control camera on the roof of the Alliant Energy building on Newton Avenue across from the courthouse. The camera will transmit live pictures to the company’s Web site.
&uot; This allows anybody to be a sidewalk supervisor,&uot; said Tim Harmann, A & P site supervisor.
A & P has started offering the Web cam to meet popular demand from the people to see the details of their projects, particularly for public buildings. The company is already been broadcasting six of its ongoing projects on the Internet, according to Hermann.
The live feed from the camera will be converted into a picture every 30 seconds. Internet users can access the changing images by clicking a link placed on the A & P Web site: www.A-P.com. The link will be ready in two weeks, Harmann said.
The new judicial center part of the courthouse project will start Feb. 19 with a groundbreaking ceremony on the former Western Grocer building site. The construction will be completed by July of 2004, followed by the remodeling of the 1888 historic courthouse and demolition of the 1954 building. The total duration of the project is estimated to be 21 months.
