David W. Schmidt, age 40, of New Richland, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the United Methodist Church in Wells. The Rev. Kenneth Haack will officiate. Visitation will be at United Methodist Church in Wells today from 4-8 p.m., and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Wells. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home, Wells, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Oct. 14, 1962, the son of Orlend and Yvonne (Schrader) Schmidt in Wells. He married Karen Anderson on July 27, 1985, in Wells. They were married from 1985-1995.
David graduated from Freeborn High School in the class of 1981. He attended Mankato Vocational School and graduated with a degree in Farm Management in 1983. David farmed in the Wells area all of his life and was a member of Wells United Methodist Church. He coached basketball and was a member of the Athletic Boosters. He enjoyed all sports, farming, and his animals. He loved watching his children grow and play sports. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his three children: Derek Schmidt of Wells, Samantha Schmidt of Wells, and Bo Schmidt of Wells; mother and step-father: Yvonne and Ken Walker of Wells, two sisters: Shirley and her husband Will DuBois of Plymouth, Minn., and Janice and her husband Don Cook of St. Cloud; maternal grandmother, Emma Schrader of Winnebago; one niece, Jessica DuBois of Plymouth; four nephews: Jason and Jordan DuBois of Plymouth, and Scott and Tony Baltes of St. Cloud; and many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orlend Schmidt, in 1978; maternal grandfather, Roy Schrader; and paternal grandparents: William and Sarah Schmidt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
