Doris C. Carlsen, 95, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Doris C. Carlsen, age 95, of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. The Rev. Douglas Smither will officiate. Interment will be in the Clarks Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Doris died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Thorne Crest South.

Doris Cathryn Carlsen was born July 4, 1907, in St. Paul. She came to Clarks Grove as a five-year-old girl. Doris attended District #82 School and graduated from Geneva High School. On Jan. 8, 1926, she was united in marriage to Walter L. Carlsen in Albert Lea. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, music (she played several instruments by ear), and her kitties. She also enjoyed her church and doing for others.

Survivors include daughters: Lorraine and husband Ray Severson of Clarks Grove, Lucille and husband Duane Hagen of Eufaula, Ala., and Dianne and husband John Henline of Texarkana, Texas; sons: Larry and wife Karen Carlsen of Clarks Grove, Lowell and wife Carol Carlsen of Madrid, Iowa, Howard of Shawano, Wis., and fiance Mary Thein, and Dale and wife Sandy Carlsen of Douglasville, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Mabel Carlsen of Albert Lea; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters: Gladys Smith of Ojai, Calif. and Helia Burshem of Arcata, Calif.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in December 1969; her son, Marvin, in October 2000; and her daughter-in-law, Audrey Carlsen.
