Family escapes evening fire without injuries

A house fire at 711 E. Hawthorne St. sent a family of five into the freezing street Tuesday evening.

The blaze started around 6:15 p.m. from a child’s bedroom of the one-story house. A 4-year-old boy was sleeping in the room, according to the father, Lennie Aguilera.

Everybody in the house evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no one was injured. The house received heavy smoke damage. The firefighters rescued three cats from the smoke.
