Gene Van Wilgen, of Garden Grove, Calif., died Jan. 13, 2003, of an aneurysm.

He was born and raised in Hollandale. He and Sandy Van Riper were married in 1961 and lived in the Hollandale area until moving to California in 1971.

Gene is survived by his wife, and four sons: Larry and Lisa, and Rick and Karen of Garden Grove, Doug and Laurice of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Jeff and Sandy of Las Vegas, Nev. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; his mother, Hazel Anderson of Hollandale; his brother, John of Hollandale; and his sister, Norma Hanson of Clarks Grove. He has a large extended family in the Albert Lea area.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Van Wilgen, in 1979.

A memorial service was held in Garden Grove, Calif., on Jan. 20.
