Jason W. Wetzel, 22, New Richland

The funeral service for Jason W. Wetzel of New Richland will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, and one hour before the service at the church.

Jason died as a result of a car accident on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. He was 22.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1980, in Waseca, the son of Randy and Cyndi (Ulferts) Wetzel. He was a 1999 graduate of New Richland High School. He attended Riverland Community College in Albert Lea for the construction electrician program. While at Riverland, he was on the dean’s list and also enjoyed being involved in student government. Jason graduated from Riverland in May 2002.

He had worked at American Freightways in Owatonna, and was currently employed at the Owatonna branch of the Rochester division of Pepsi.

Jason was an avid pool player, currently active in three leagues. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, dart playing, snow boarding and collecting eagles.

Jason will be greatly missed by his family: parents, Randy and Cyndi Wetzel of New Richland; sister, Jennifer Wetzel of New Richland and her fianc David Bisbee of La Crosse, Wis.; grandparents, LaVonne “Bonnie” Rosenback of New Richland, Warren Wetzel and his wife Evie of Waseca, and Marjorie “Marge” Ulferts of Wells; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers: Dietrich “Dick” Rosenback and Werner Ulferts.
