Funeral services for John F. Winter, age 86, of Ellendale, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Rob Mumm will officiate. There will be no visitation.

John died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.

John Fredrick Winter was born Aug. 13, 1916, to Sam and Gertie (Fredrick) Winter in Thompson, Iowa. On Dec. 1, 1939, he was united in marriage to Gladys Hill in Swea City, Iowa. In 1951, they moved to their farm east of Geneva. John was an avid farmer who loved the land and had been able to continue farming up until last year.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Ellendale; son, Alan and wife Karen Winter of Webster, S.D.; daughter, Judith and husband Patrick Deml of Ellendale; and four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry Winter; and sister, Geraldine Craychee.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
