Marion Lucille Hansen, age 68, of 7006 Hwy. 57, Baileys Harbor, Wis., and
Hot Springs Village, Ark., passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer at Door County Memorial Hospital in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
She was born March 22, 1934 in Albert Lea, the daughter of the late John and Meta (Wolters) Nielsen.
After graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1951, she attended Dana College and University of Iowa.
On Sept. 4, 1955, she married Gary F. Hansen in Albert Lea.
Marion was employed as an associate registrar at the University of Iowa from 1955-59 and from 1962-97, and at Shimer College in Mount Carroll, Ill. during 1960-61.
Marion was an early pioneer of computer applications for university registration systems. She achieved national recognition and her systems ideas were utilized across the country.
She was a member of the Hot Springs Village Evening Lions Club,
HSV Women’s 18 Hole Social Golf League, and the Bonnie Braes Women’s Golf League at Maxwelton Braes in Baileys Harbor. Marion enjoyed family reunions, traveling, golfing, walking, reading, refinishing furniture, and working in the University of Iowa Football Press Box (1961-97). Marion and Gary owned &uot;The Ole Heidelberg&uot;
just north of Jacksonport for the last 18 years.
Marion is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary F. Hansen of Baileys Harbor, Wis., and Hot Springs Village, Ark.; son, Bradley J. (Cathy) Hansen and their children, Meredith, Braden and Curtis, all of New Berlin, Wis.; daughter, Heidi A. (Lindley) Kistler and their children, Tara, Keila and Kyrie, all of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; son, Brock T. Hansen of Green Bay, Wis., and his son, John of
Newport News, Va.;
son, Blair G. (Marsha) Hansen of Des Moines, Iowa;
three sisters: Luella Nielsen of Blair, Neb., Eleanor (Don) Schou of Albert Lea, and Margaret (Bill) Rodenberg of Centerville, Ohio;
two brothers, Rev. John (Liz) Nielsen of Blair, Neb., and James (Chris) Nielsen of Munster, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Meta Nielsen; and sister, Elizabeth Anne Pedersen.
Funeral services were held today, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. at Huehns Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., with the Rev. John Zeile officiating.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport, Wis.
Friends called at Huehns Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay on Wednesday, Jan. 8,
from 6-9 p.m., and today from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made in Marion Hansen’s name for the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
The Hansen family thanks Dr. Roenning, Dr. McGovern, and the onocology and nursing staffs at Door County Memorial Hospital for their
compassion and effort during Marion’s fight with cancer.
