Peter L. Crom, age 79, of Dexter, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at St. Gertrude’s Health Center in Shakopee.

He was born Aug. 20, 1923 in Moritz, S.D., to John and Mary (Paulson) Crom. He attended schools in South Dakota. Peter married Sylvia D. Griffin on Nov. 15, 1950 in Minneapolis. Employed by a local truck company, he retired in 1985. He enjoyed NASCAR, playing cards and loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include eight children: Sandy Newman of Shakopee, Allen (Cindy) Crom of Stewartville, Barb (Ray) Phillips of Shakopee, Mark (Linda) Crom of Albert Lea, Linda (Earl) Sams of Eagan, Laurie Buege of Rochester, Lisa Crom of Albert Lea, and Diana Crom of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, George (Eileen) Crom of Watertown, S.D.; sister, Florence Patterson of Seattle, Wash.; and many wonderful friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia; and two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel, Austin, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating. Friends may call two hours before the service. Inurnment is at Dexter Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church of Dexter in lieu of flowers.
