There’s a new sheriff in town

New Freeborn County Sheriff Mark Harig is sworn in Monday morning

at the courthouse. Harig, a former detective who specialized in

narcotics investigation, has pledged to implement stronger enforcement

on drug-related crimes. He said the sheriff’s office would be

re-engaged in the South Central Drug Investigative Unit, assigning

one deputy to the organization, in the job Harig did himself for

a decade.
