Funeral services for Alton T. Jensen, age 82, formerly of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the First Baptist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. with a Masonic memorial service at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Alton died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center, Minn.

Alton Thomas Jensen was born Nov. 20, 1920, to Thomas and Nellie (Olson) Jensen in Albert Lea. After attending school in Albert Lea, he worked with his parents at Consumer’s Coal Company. Alton served in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines where he was a heavy truck driver instructor and a seaman in charge of three crash boats used to rescue fighter pilots forced into the sea. On Aug. 22, 1945, Alton was united in marriage to Virginia Simpson Evans in Salem, Ore. After his discharge from the Army, the couple moved back to Albert Lea and Alton started his own business, Jensen Transport. In 1982, he sold the business and retired. The couple spent winters in Tucson for the next 10 years. In 1993, Alton and Virginia moved to Sun City, and then moved to Kasson in 2000. He enjoyed camping and creating silver and turquoise jewelry. Alton was a member of the Albert Lea Crossroads Campers, Glenville Snowmobile Club, Western Star, Elks, American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Kasson; children: Linda and husband John Campbell of Chesapeake, Va., Philip and wife Judy Evans of Kasson, Michael Jensen of Minneapolis, and Jan Wilson of Kasson; grandchildren: Tara and husband Manny Trinadad, Curtis and wife Joan Morrison, Scott Morrison, Joseph and wife Debbie Campbell, Roxanne and husband Steve Hagelburger, Wesley and wife Laurie Evans, Melissa and husband Kurt Radke, Joshua and wife Naomi Jensen, Sarah Jensen, Aric Wilson and Alex Wilson; great-grandchildren: Justin, Heather, Robbie, Christopher, Alexi, Shantel, Ian, Bradley, Noel, Nick, Amanda, Julia, Brandon and Delaney; great-great-granddaughter, Delilah; brothers: Carl and wife Joan Jensen, Harley and wife Helen Jensen, and Richard and wife Judy Jensen; and special dog, &uot;Kiki.&uot;

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Memorials are preferred to Western Star Lodge or the Albert Lea Humane Society.
