Jean A. Stead, 78, Rochester

Jean A. Stead, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Madonna Meadows in Rochester.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Wayne Vogt officiating.
Interment will be at the family cemetery in Burr Oak, Iowa.
Jean A. Kruger was born April 1, 1924, in Rochester, and was baptized and confirmed at the First Methodist Episcopalian Church. She graduated from Rochester High School and Winona State College. She was an elementary teacher in West Concord and Canton, Minn. In 1948 she married L. Loring Stead in Rochester. They owned and operated grocery businesses in Canton and Emmons for 21 years. She was active in the Canton Presbyterian Church and the Emmons Lutheran Church. She was a Gold Star sister, president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a Junior Auxiliary leader. She and her husband later lived in Worthington and Benson, Minn., where he worked for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture for 13 years. They retired in Rochester, where they were members of the Zumbro Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteer work, sketching and artistic projects.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Loring (Pam) Stead of Rochester; two daughters: Linda (Larry) Rasmussen of Emmons, and Nancy Hill of Rochester; seven grandchildren: Matthew Rasmussen of Rosebud, S.D., Lisa (Dr. Timothy) Abrahamson, of Waukee, Iowa, and Justin, Andrew, Danielle, Loring John and Ellison Stead of Rochester; two great-grandchildren: Elsa and Ian Abrahamson of Waukee, Iowa; a brother, the Rev. Norman (Estelle) Kruger of National City, Calif.; a sister, Dolores True of Chula Vista, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband; a brother, James, in the Korean war; and an infant granddaughter, Laura, preceded her in death.
Friends may call one half hour prior to the service at the church.
