John Clark Misgen, 87, Ellendale

The funeral service for John Clark Misgen will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Aiden’s Catholic Church, Ellendale. The Rev. Joseph Fogal will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Owatonna. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale, and one hour before the service at the church.

John died on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at his home in Ellendale. He was 87 years old.

John was born in Steele County on Jan. 10, 1916, the son of Ben and Mary (Clark) Misgen. He attended Berlin Country School, rural Ellendale. He was a lifelong resident of Ellendale.

In 1946, John was united in marriage with Eleanor Jasinski at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, Owatonna. They were members of St. Aiden’s Catholic Church, Ellendale.

John and his brother, Francis owned and operated Misgen Brothers Trucking and Livestock Buying in South St. Paul and Ellendale until 1962, and then John operated John Misgen Livestock Dealership until his retirement in 1986.

John enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club in Albert Lea. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and playing cards with his grandchildren.

John is survived by two sons: Tom Misgen and Lonnie Misgen, both of Ellendale; eight grandchildren: Derrick Lindquist and his wife Lesli of Rochester, Sarah Misgen of Rochester, Melissa Leuze of Tampa, Fla., Maria Misgen of Minneapolis, Macey Misgen of Mankato, Marcy Misgen and her fianc Justin Frauendienst of Mankato, Johnny Misgen of Winona, and Michelle Misgen of Ellendale; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis Misgen of Ellendale; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor, in 1952; daughter, Mary Ann Tigner, in 1996; two sisters: Marian Rief and Eleanor Misgen; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Misgen.
