Books in the basement

Thousands of law books, tax records and registration documents

dating back to the foundation of Freeborn County sleep in the

basement of the 1888 courthouse building. Some of them will be

shipped out to the historical society and high school to make

room for the sheriff’s office and the city police, which will

be forced out from the current law enforcement center for the

new criminal justice center construction starting next week.
