Weekend Planner: Music and mall events planned

The Minnesota Boychoir will be in Albert Lea at 4 p.m. Sunday as part of the Myers Art Series at United Methodist Church, Highway 69 South.

The Minnesota Boychoir is an amateur non-denominational group of metro-area boys. They are selected by annual audition and range in age from 7-17 years. Some 80 singers are expected for Sunday’s performance.

There is no charge to attend the concert, however, a freewill offering will be received to help defray expenses.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 21

– Power 96 will present the &uot;Beat the Blahs&uot; Extravaganza from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. There will be food, fun and entertainment, a moon walk inflatable bouncing box and slide for the kids, on-stage entertainment and lots of prizes. There will be over 40 booths.

– The wood show continues at the Albert Lea Art Center. Gallery hours are from noon-4 p.m. Exhibiting are Bonnie Felt, Julie Sorenson, Jon Bera, Dean Honsey, Luis Chamizo, Ed and Cathy Cook and family, and Vern Breamer. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray art center expenses.

– St. Theodore Catholic Church will hold a fish fry from 5-6:30 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Kids under 3 eat free. The menu includes fish, baked or mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls and ice cream with toppings.

Saturday, Feb. 22

– The wood show concludes at the Albert Lea Art Center. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

There will be over 40 booths. There will also be a live auction to benefit the United Way at 11 a.m.

– The Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum, 131 N. Broadway Ave., will host &uot;A Day With Dolls: The Story of the Ginny Doll,&uot; at noon and 2 p.m.

There will be stories and surprises for children and adults. Cost is $2 for adults; museum members and children will be admitted free. Those attending should bring a favorite doll or stuffed animal for show and tell.

– The Glenville-Emmons Post-Prom Committee will hold a pork chop supper from 5-8 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion. A freewill offering will be received.

Sunday, Feb. 23

– The Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis Club will hold a Dad’s Belgian Waffles breakfast from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Union Center. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes waffles, eight different syrups and toppings, sausage links and beverage. Cost is $5 per person. Kids under 5 eat free. Tickets are available through any Noon Kiwanis member or at the door. Carryouts are available. Proceeds benefit local youths.

– New Star Discovery will present the Most Beautiful Baby Contest. Registration is from noon-1 p.m. with the contest beginning at 1:15.
