A PeeWees finish third in region tourney

The Albert Lea Albert Lea A PeeWees hockey team participated in the Silver Region Tournament this past weekend, finishing third.
The locals opened the tournament with a double-overtime 3-2 win over Crow River.
Mound/Westonka, the first seed from District 5, was the next opponent for Albert Lea. Mound scored late in the third period to escape with a 3-2 win.
The Union Center team claimed the third-place trophy with a 5-0 win over Faribault.
Scoring goals for Albert Lea were Dylan Porter, Mitchell Sorenson, Casey Woodside, Tyler Prihoda and Adam Royce. Assisting on the goals were Logan Ferrie, Royce, Jared Hughes, Christopher Dokken, Bryce Adams, Woodside, Grant Stadheim, Porter and Drew Passingham.
Also having an outstanding weekend were Adam Madrigal and Blake Adams.
Ben Waalkens had three strong games in net. Waalkens stopped 52 shots on goal for the weekend.
“These kids played their hearts out this weekend,&uot; said head coach Darris Porter. &uot;We could just as easily been playing for the championship today. I am very proud of the way we played and handled ourselves this weekend.”
