Arthur ‘Art’ M. Johnson, 85, Conger

The funeral service for Arthur &uot;Art&uot; M. Johnson, of Conger, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Conger. The Rev. William Greaver will officiate. Interment will be in the Conger Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before at the church.

Art died on Sunday, March 23, 2003, at his home. He was 85 years old.

Art was born in Mansfield Township on Aug. 14, 1917, the son of Henry and Minnie (Jahnke) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Mansfield Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in District #74. At a young age he began farming with his father and continued farming and living on his grandfather’s farm southwest of Conger. Art was married to Viola Behr on June 28, 1944, at the Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church.

Art was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served several years on the church council. He was also a member of the Eagle’s Club and had served on the Conger Creamery Board and Conger Elevator Board.

Art loved to fish and play cards, especially whist.

Art is survived by his wife of 58 years, Viola; son, Gary Johnson and wife Lynne of rural Albert Lea; grandchildren: Brenda Farrell and husband Rich of Mahtomedi, Minn., Brian Johnson of Costa Rica, Jeremy Johnson and wife Darcy of Conger, and Nathan Johnson and wife Nicole of Albert Lea; step grandchildren: Troy Carrick and wife Colleen of Austin, and Lauren Wallen and husband Jeff of Blaine, Minn.; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Jacob, Molly, Jade, Megan, Ahnika, Colin, Zachary, Joshua and Alexxa; a brother, Walter Johnson of Alden; a sister, Doris Baer and husband Arthur of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law: Leona Behr of Albert Lea, and Mary Behr of Conger; brother-in-law, LeRoy Behr and wife Lorene of Conger; and several nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gayle; three children in infancy; and a brother, Carl.

Art was much loved and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
