Mary Thrond resigned from her position on the United South Central school board last Monday.

Serving on the board since 2002, she said she has had many problems with the way in which the board has handled itself.

&uot;I just can’t continue to serve on the board the way the board is going,&uot; she said. &uot;I’m not really sure all the board members are in touch with the priorities of the people of this district.&uot;

Thrond, in a statement she read Monday, cited a lack of public confidence in the board, a lack of regard for meeting laws, and an overall discontentment with the handling of the investigation of former Superintendent Frank Lorentz as reasons for her resignation.

&uot;Why was the superintendent allowed to stay on the job during the investigation?&uot; she wrote. &uot;The board chair at that time responded to the media by saying the board decided to keep him on the job. The board never discussed whether or not he should be allowed to stay on the job.&uot;

Thrond said that the board had voted her off as clerk illegally, in a special meeting in which only budget cuts were to be discussed.

&uot;When will the actions of other board members be disciplined in the same way I have been?&uot; she stated.

She also said the board did not have liability protection, which was found out during the investigation of the last superintendent.

&uot;I myself can’t continue to serve on a board that in the same meeting quotes the law and then ignores the law,&uot; she said in her statement.
