Genevieve Marion Ackland, 87, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Genevieve Marion Ackland, age 87, of Albert Lea will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today, March 31, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Genevieve died Friday, March 28, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Genevieve Marion Ackland was born Nov. 19, 1915, to John and Dea (Mathison) Larson in Albert Lea. She attended Albert Lea schools and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1933. On Jan. 25, 1939, Genevieve was united in marriage to Byron Ackland at the First Lutheran Church Parsonage. She was a lifelong resident of Albert Lea. Genevieve had worked at Woolworth’s, owned Fountain Street Grocery with her sister, Deloris, and had been a sales clerk at Anderson’s Fashions. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Club Auxiliary, and Senior Citizens. Genevieve enjoyed cooking, needlework, reading, flowers and visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice and husband Ken Gjersvik of Altoona, Iowa; sisters: Lillian Dudley and Deloris Emery, both of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Perry and wife Valerie Gjersvik of Runnells, Iowa, Mitchell and wife Tammy Gjersvik of Altoona, and Eric and wife Jodi Gjersvik, also of Altoona; and great-grandchildren: David, Wade, Nathan, Evan, Kayla, Cameron, Adam and Andrew.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron; son, Ronald; sister, Virginia Fargusson; brother, Harry Larson; and step father, Alex Stanzuk.
Gen was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
