Herbert Bartelt, 89, of Waldorf, Minn. died Friday, March 28, 2003 at his daughter’s home in rural Albert Lea.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate. Visitation will be at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells on today from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday.
Interment will be at Dunbar Memorial Cemetery in Minnesota Lake Township.
Herbert was born July 22, 1904 in Vivian Township, Waseca County, Minn., the son of William and Christina H. (Buscho) Bartelt. He was married to Elsie E. Schnoor on March 25, 1924 in Wells.
Herb attended country school in Vivian Township No. 83. He played baseball and softball in his younger days. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, playing cards, nature and his family. He also enjoyed telling stories. He was a member of Zoars United Church of Christ in Waldorf.
He is survived by four daughters; Romona and husband William Boyer of Albert Lea, Betty and husband Charles Sonnek of Waldorf, Marlene and husband Martin Mogensen of Trinity, Fla. and Beverly and husband Harvey Hesse of Pemberton, Minn.; one son; Duane and wife Lavonne Bartelt of Stewartville, Minn.; one daughter-in-law; Alyce Bartelt of Calmar, Iowa; 47 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elsie in 1984, son Robert in 1988, one grandson and one great-grandson, brother Percy Bartelt and sister Ruth Schroeder, step-brothers and step-sisters: George and Lawrence Kaibel, Sarah Elmer and Adlene McGuiness.
