In brief: Area wrestlers place at state

ST. PAUL &045; Four area wrestlers earned medals in the state high school wrestling tournament that concluded Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

John Niebuhr of United South Central finished second in Class A at 145 pounds. USC’s Steven Wood was third at 189, and the Rebels’ Kenny Sandt was fifth at 119.

Kaleb Jacobson of NRHEG placed sixth at 171.

NRHEG lost both its dual meets and did not place in team competition.

Winter sports sign-up this week

Registration for Albert Lea High School spring sports will be held March 3-7 in the ALHS athletic office. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

MSHSL eligibility forms, insurance forms, and health forms must be signed by both parents and students. This only needs to be done if student hasn’t participated in a fall or winter sport.

Athletes must also have a current physical on file in the office.

Fees are $100 for grades 9-12, $75 for grades 7-8.

All of the above must be completed in order to be placed on the roster.

The parent/student/coaches meeting is Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. in the ALHS gym. Individual coaches will hold meetings after the rules meeting.
