Orville E. ‘Slug’ Miller, 83, Wells

Orville E. &uot;Slug&uot; Miller, age 83, of Wells, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at the Parkview Care Center in Wells.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at the United Methodist Church in Wells, with the Rev. Greg Ciesluk officiating. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells today, March 13, from 4-8 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Dunbar Memorial Cemetery in Minnesota Lake Township, Faribault County. Military honors will be by the Wells Color Guard.
He was born Feb. 1, 1920, the son of Aaron and Anna (Roesler) Miller in Vivian Township, Waseca County.
He was baptized and confirmed in the E.U.B. Church. He graduated from Wells High School in 1939. He was employed at the Hanson Funeral Home as an apprentice embalmer before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He spent 2-1/2 years in Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands, and one year in the Army Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. He was a medic and attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. He performed the duties of a surgical technician. After his enlistment, he attended electrical school and was employed by the electric shop in Wells for 28 years, and with the Del Monte Corporation for eight years.
He married Florence Hagen on Dec. 27, 1947, at the E.U.B. Church in Wells. They lived their entire married life in Wells. After their retirement they spent their winters in Arizona. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees, including the building committee and was an usher. He served as Sunday school teacher, youth fellowship leader, Boy Scout leader, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Wells American Legion, the VFW and the Wells Color Guard. He was a man of many talents and a &uot;jack of all trades.&uot; He enjoyed traveling, spending time in his workshop and solving electrical problems.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Miller of Wells; two daughters: Barbara Nowak and husband Tony of Owatonna, and Pamela Fokken and husband Dean of Braham, Minn.; one son, Dean Hagen and wife Kathy of North Mankato; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Reuben Miller; and one grandson in infancy
