Funeral services for Ronald R. Johnson, age 71, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at Calvary Baptist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Douglas Smither will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today, Sunday, March 9, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Ronald died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Ronald R. Johnson was born Dec. 26, 1931, to William and Merium (Jones) Johnson in Mankato. He received his G.E.D. in 1948. Ronald was employed at Land ‘0’ Lakes and Albert Lea Foundry until entering the U.S. Army in January 1951. He was stationed at Camp Rucker, Ala., until his discharge in Sept. 1952. Ronald held the rank of Staff Sergeant, First Cook and Acting Mess Sergeant. He returned to work at Albert Lea Foundry until 1962. He also worked for Drug Supply Co. and Freeborn County Engineers for a short time. On June 24, 2000, Ronald was united in marriage to Marilyn Zerck at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, where he was just awarded lifetime membership and was also a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn; his four daughters and their families; sister Betty Anderson of Albert Lea; brother Maynard Johnson of Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Donald; three infant sisters; and a sister Sadie Piepho.
