Funeral services for Willard K. Reichl, age 90, of Albert Lea, will be held today, March 25, at 1:30 p.m. at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Hernes will officiate. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, March 24, from 5-7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Willard died on Saturday, March 22, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Willard Kenneth Reichl was born on Feb. 3, 1913, in Minneapolis, the son of Anton and Hannah (Jacobson) Reichl. He attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1931. Willard was a steward of the land in Freeborn County, where he has resided for 87 years. Willard was united in marriage to Alvera Romer, and after her death in 1951 he married Lillian Fogel on June 6, 1953, at Concordia Lutheran Church. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and later East Freeborn Lutheran Church. Willard also was a member of the Farmers Union, Lutheran Brotherhood and served on the Lerdal School Board.
Survivors include his children: Dorothy Raveling of Elgin, Ill., Janet and husband Jon Heidinger of Minneapolis, W. Kent and wife Vicki Reichl of Albert Lea, and Lorna Reichl and husband Roger Peters of St. Paul; six grandchildren: Lynn Raveling, Boyd and wife Andrea Raveling, Britt and J. David Heidinger, and Christopher and Nicholas Reichl; two great-grandchildren: Emma and Nathan Reichl; sister, Bernice Cundy of Des Moines, Iowa; and brother, Robert Reichl of Albert Lea. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Alvera, in 1951; second wife, Lillian, in 1993; brothers: Clifford and Earl; two brothers in infancy; and one grandson, Ryan Raveling.
Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
