The temperature flirted with 90 degrees in Albert Lea on Monday, only a week after residents were digging out of a spring storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on their doorsteps.

It was that kind of day in southern and central Minnesota. The National Weather Service reported record highs in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Mankato, Rochester and Redwood Falls.

The official high temperature for Albert Lea was 88 Monday, tying a record set in 1954.

The high was 89 degrees at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. That topped the previous April 14 record of 85 set in 1954.

In St. Cloud it was also 89 degrees, Mankato hit 90, Rochester topped out at 87 and Redwood Falls reached 91.

Temperatures ranged in the mid-80s to mid-90s for much of central and southern Minnesota.

Forecasters expected widespread rain over central and southern Minnesota Tuesday night and Wednesday. The rain may mix with snow in central areas on Wednesday afternoon. Highs by then will range from around 40 in the north to the middle 50s in the southeast.
