It was another chilly, windy day at Green Lea Golf Course, and again the Albert Lea Tigers ignored it.
The Tigers, among the preseason favorites in the Big Nine Conference and Section 1AA, continued to play like it with a 304-339 victory over Austin Monday. It kept the Albert Lea boys undefeated with a 4-0 record.
&uot;It was a great round on another windy day,&uot; said coach Matt Addington. &uot;The kids really went out and competed today.&uot;
Adam Elseth was the leader, carding a 73 for medalist honors. Josh Jones was close behind with a 74, followed by Ben Jones, 78; Ross Stadheim, 79; Dan Breuer, 80; and Matt Bennett, 81.
Addington has been encouraged by the Tigers’ balance so far.
&uot;It’s not the same guys every match, which is great,&uot; said Addington. &uot;A lot of guys are playing well. It’s fun as a coach to watch these guys compete. They’re extremely focused on the course.&uot;
The Albert Lea junior varsity also played well, winning 323-390. Jon Breuer shot 78, Corey Ellertson 80, Beau Larson 81, Casey Bowman 84.
&uot;It was a great effort for both the varsity and junior varsity,&uot; said Addington. &uot;Two outstanding scores.&uot;
The Tigers play in the Northfield Invitational Thursday.
