NORTHFIELD &045; After posting some very impressive scores in early-season rounds, the Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team was looking forward to showing some metro area schools what the Big Nine favorites could do.
It didn’t happen.
The Tigers shot 323 and finished fourth in Thursday’s Northfield Invitational.
&uot;It was a disappointing day for us,&uot; said coach Matt Addington. &uot;I think the kids came up here expecting to shoot much better than that. It was a much tougher course than we’ve played so far this season, and we didn’t rise to the occasion real well. It’s something we need to do if we’re going to be in contention in the big meets at the end of the year.&uot;
Apple Valley won with 316 strokes, followed by Burnsville with 318, Northfield 319, Albert Lea 323, Austin 324, Rosemount 343, Mankato West 350 and Richfield 356.
Josh Jones and Adam Elseth shot 79 to lead the Tigers. The other scores that counted were Ross Stadheim’s 80 and Matt Bennett’s 85. Ben Jones and Dan Breuer shot 86.
The Tigers are back in action today at the New Prague Invitational.
