Again, the weather conditions were less than ideal, and again the Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team performed better than expected.
On a cold, windy Thursday at Green Lea, the Tigers shot an impressive 148 for nine holes to defeat visiting Fairmont by 20 strokes in a nonconference dual meet.
&uot;It was another pretty solid effort today, considering the conditions,&uot; said ALHS coach Matt Addington, whose team improved to 4-0. &uot;To go out and shoot under 150 today shows that we’re learning how to deal with some of the external factors. It’s a sign of some good things. We’re making progress.&uot;
Josh Jones was the medalist with an even par 35. Following for the Tigers: Ross Stadheim 37, Dan Breuer 37, Matt Bennett 39, Adam Elseth 40, Ben Jones 42.
The Albert Lea junior varsity won 117-213.
The medalist and the Tigers’ leader was Beau Larson with a 42, followed by Jon Breuer, 44; Alex Lair, 45; Troy Farnes, 46; Ben Billat, 46; Matt Olsen, 47.
&uot;I’m proud of the kids and the way they’ve been able to handle the conditions, which is what has kept us off the course a lot of time this spring,&uot; said Addington. &uot;We’re looking forward to Monday at Austin.&uot;
