Arthur Charles Boyer, 88, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Arthur Charles Boyer will be held Friday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Paul Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Theodore’s Catholic Cemetery.
Art died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Thorne Crest South Nursing Home in Albert Lea where he was a resident for 12 years. He was 88 years old.
Art was born in Bancroft, Iowa, on Feb. 15, 1915, the son of John Mathew and Helen Rose (Sanftner) Boyer. His family moved to New Richland in 1923 where he attended school.
He married Mildred Fulton of Alden on June 2, 1942. He worked for Land 0’Lakes in Albert Lea and soon moved to California where he worked in the Calship shipyards in Long Beach. After returning to the Albert Lea area. Art worked as a carpenter most of his life. He worked for Page and Hill, Dickema Construction, Quality Forests, and various construction firms in the area. He also owned and operated a large turkey farm north of Albert Lea until 1951. He was a member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church and the Moose Club for many years.
Art enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, and was known as the “Puzzle Man” at the Thorne Crest South Nursing Home where he had resided since 1991. Art will be remembered for his love of family and humorous disposition. He was always available to help those near to him with various remodeling and repairing projects for which he had a wonderful ability to tackle.
Art is survived by Millie Boyer and their children: daughter, Karen L. O’Byrne of Albert Lea; sons: Robert and wife Sarah of Oklahoma City, Okla., Michael and wife Lynne, Kevin Boyer, and Scott and wife Laurie, all of Albert Lea; and son-in-law, Richard Berg. Surviving grandchildren are: Steven and Jim O’Byrne of Albert Lea, Julie Jacobs of Mankato, Chris, Drew and Amy Boyer of Oklahoma City, Michelle, Terri and Luke Boyer, Jami Johnston, and Aaron and Amber Boyer, all of Albert Lea; and 11 great-grandchildren. Art is also survived by two sisters: Luella Bergen of Albert Lea, and Margery Bice of Albert Lea; brothers: Charles and wife EllenMae, Walter and wife Rose, William and wife Ramona, and Lyle and wife Jeannie, all of Albert Lea, and Francis and wife Margaret of Jackson; brother-in-law, Leslie Petersen of Crosby; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judith Berg; his mother- and father-in-law, Fred and Millie Fulton; brothers: John and Richard; sisters: Dorothy Boyer and Anna Petersen; brother-in-law, Faye Bice; and three nephews: Tom and John Boyer and Danny Petersen.
Art will be sadly missed by those who loved and knew him. Memories of Art and his impact on our lives will be held close to our hearts forever with happiness and love. He enjoyed the special care that he received from all of the nurses and the aides at Thorne Crest South who were a large part of his life for the past 12 years.
