WINONA &045; It looked like the Albert Lea High School baseball team was going to end a season-long drought.
Instead, the longest bus ride of the season got even longer.
The Tigers were swept in a doubleheader at Winona Tuesday, giving up two home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two.
&uot;It was a couple good ballgames, but it’s tough to lose them,&uot; said ALHS coach Joe Sczublewski, whose team fell to 0-5 in the Big Nine and 0-6 overall.
The Tigers lost the opener despite outhitting the Winhawks 8-7. Dave Villarreal, Derek Goodnature and Dave Heijerman had two hits apiece, with Brandon Klukow and Preston Dahl adding one each.
Goodnature pitched a complete game. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits, walking two and fanning five.
The Tigers took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh in game two but, for the second day in a row, lost on a walk-off homer by an opponent.
Heijerman, Goodnature and Klukow got two hits each. Loberg, Villarreal, Nick Veldman, Dahl and Josh Diaz each had one hit.
Dahl took the loss in relief of Klukow, who started and pitched into the sixth inning.
The Tigers host Mankato West Thursday.
