Arnold Biedermann has a drive to give back to the community of Albert Lea.
He has done so by serving as a policeman, a fireman and the city fire marshal. He has also volunteered to assist the chaplain at St. John’s Lutheran Home for the last 23 years.
&uot;This is a wonderful community,&uot; he said. &uot;I will always owe a debt of gratitude.&uot;
Since February, Biedermann has served as the full-time chaplain because of the regular chaplain’s retirement. This ended on Good Friday, when he conducted the last service as the full-time chaplain. A new chaplain is now in place at St. John’s.
Biedermann helps out with the services at St. John’s, as well as the Bible studies and visits to St. John’s patients in the hospital.
Biedermann believes it is important to keep faith an integral part of the lives of St. John’s residents.
&uot;Spirituality is so important for them,&uot; he said. &uot;It gives them something to hope for.&uot;
Biedermann’s wife, Adeline, is usually right by his side, volunteering as well. She enjoys giving the residents something to look forward to and enjoy.
&uot;It just gives joy to your inner spirit,&uot; she said.
