Hazel E. Berhow, 88, Albert Lea

Hazel E. Berhow, age 88, of Albert Lea, formerly of Kiester, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She had been in ill health the past several months.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Jim Haun will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in rural Kiester.

She was born June 7,1914, near Elmore, to Sidney and Cora (Johnson) Krosch.

She married Oral Forthun who died in 1950. She married Donnis I. “Bud” Berhow on Dec. 30,1963, in St. Clair.

Hazel graduated from Elmore High School. She and her husband Oral farmed near Frost for several years and moved to Kiester in 1938. She owned and operated Hazel’s Cafe in Kiester. She and Donnis moved to Albert Lea in 1969. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. She enjoyed cooking and camping.

She is survived by two daughters: Janet Schneider of Oakdale, Minn., and Carol (husband Michael) Cannon of Scottsdale, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Corabelle Peterson of North Carolina, and Maybelle of Florida.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oral, in 1950; husband, Donnis, in 2002; daughter, Connie Doyle; and one sister, Elsie Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Fairview Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
