Panthers win a pair

ELLENDALE &045; The NRHEG softball team scored an exciting 6-5, 10-inning victory over Lyle/Austin Pacelli at Ellendale Friday.
Erin Anderson had the game-winning hit, driving in Chelsy Quiram who singled in the bottom of the 10th. Anderson finished 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Betsy Waldhauser was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Quiram 2-for-4, Emily Hagen 2-for-4 with a triple. Nikki Bergdale, Traci Nelson, Heather Shultz and Laura Hager added one hit apiece.
Hagen went all 10 innings on the mound in her first full varsity game. She struck out eight and walked two.
“The girls never gave up,” said Panthers coach Wendy Schultz. “They showed a lot of poise. It was a nail-biter, a total team effort.”
The Panthers had some first-game jitters but overcame them in a season-opening 16-8 Gopher Conference victory at Randolph Tuesday.
Hager was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Hagen was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Anderson, Betsy Waldhauser, Bergdale and Amanda McGuire also had hits and drove in a run. Quiram, Nelson and Shultz had one RBI each.
Anderson pitched six innings for the win. Hagen pitched the seventh.
&uot;For as young we are, I was pleased,&uot; said Schultz.
The Panthers host JWP Monday.
