Robert (Bob) Schuyler Thompson, 81, Clarks Grove

Robert Schuyler Thompson (Bob), age 81, died on April 26, 2003, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove with the Rev. Al Cooper officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.

Bob was born May 12, 1921, in Albert Lea, to Roy and Ida (Nelson) Thompson. He attended country School District 68 of Freeborn County. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1939. He attended Albert Lea Junior College in 1940-1941. He was united in marriage to Marian Borland of Albert Lea on July 22, 1942. He served in the army in World War II in northern Africa and Italy.

Bob dairy and crop farmed for 40 years in the Albert Lea and Clarks Grove area.

He is survived by his wife, Marian; and nine children: Eugene (Andrea) of Freeborn, Duane, Roger of Clarks Grove, Charlotte (Bon) Barrentine of Wickenburg, Ariz., Nathan of Clarks Grove, Leslie of Albert Lea, Linda (Kevin) Kelly of Pueblo, Colo., Marvin of Clarks Grove, and Everett (Karina) of Clarks Grove. Also, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, 14 nieces and nephews; brother, William (Dorie) Thompson of Albert Lea; sister, Dorothy Reed of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Lois Madzia of Sheridan, Wyo.; and brother-in-law, Dean (Dode) Borland of Rochester.

Bob served in many organizations: Clarks Grove PTA, Clarks Grove Coop Creamery, Freeborn County Dairy Herd Improvement Assn., Freeborn County Purebred Holstein Assn., Midwest Breeders, Freeborn County American Dairy Assn., Freeborn County Fair Board, Brentwood Estates Homeowners Assn. in Mesa, Ariz., and various boards and committees for the First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove.

Bob enjoyed visiting with his friends, hunting, fishing, traveling, reading and crossword puzzles. He always had a joke to share with his family and friends.
