Rosamond C. Fraser, 100, Albert Lea

A memorial service for Rosamond Clough Fraser, who died on Monday, April 7, 2003, at Thorne Crest South, will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on April 16 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate.
Born Dec. 1, 1902, in Faribault County, the daughter of Lincoln and Alta (McChesney) Clough, Rosamond celebrated her 100th year last December. She graduated from Alden High School in 1918 and attended Hamline University, then taught a rural School District #70 for one year, returning to Hamline University and McPhail School of Music the following year. From 1920 to 1924 she became a participant in several traveling Chautauqua groups, involving travel and entertainment programs which combined education, concerts of string music and lectures.
On Dec. 1, 1924, she married Ralph F. Wedge and became a homemaker, mother, and part-time music teacher. After his death in 1953, she became a full-time elementary teacher with a B.S. degree from Mankato State. For five years she taught the Itasca School, within walking distance of her home. Then, as a teacher in School District #241, she continued teaching for 12 years, retiring in 1968, then taught at St. Theodore’s grade school for three years. She was a life member of AAUW.
She played for 25 years with the Austin Symphony and throughout her life enjoyed playing with small string groups and ensembles.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Albert Lea since 1925, she served as a Sunday school teacher, primary department superintendent and was the first president of the Dorothy Olds Missionary Society, and a member of Westminster Guild.
In 1971, she married P. Barrie Fraser. They made their residence in Albert Lea, spending their winters in California and Arizona. After his death in 1995, she continued to live in Albert Lea.
She is survived by two sons: John C. Wedge and his wife Josifa of Ontario, Calif., and Ralph William Wedge and his wife Conchita of Fontana, Calif.; grandchildren: Simone Wedge, Daniel Wedge and wife Lori and son Lucas, Joel Wedge, son Joel Jr. and daughter Tanya, Carlee and husband Wayne Iverson and their three children, Perry, Cindy and Wayne Jr., Dr. Scott Wedge and wife Cindy, and Sheri and husband David Carnes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, and a brother; sons, David and James; and daughter, Alice.
