Scott Veldman, 50, North Mankato

North Mankato resident, Scott Veldman, age 50, died of cancer on Thursday morning, April 24, 2003 at Immanuel-St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Revs. Jim Ahlquist and Karl Rydholm officiating. A private family burial service will be at the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Mankato Mortuary.
Memorials are preferred to Camp Friendship or donor’s choice.
Scott was born Dec. 17, 1952, in Albert Lea, to Wilbur and Berniece (Hammink) Veldman. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1971 and from St. Olaf College in Northfield in 1975 with a health and physical education degree. On June 19, 1976, he was united in marriage to Jeri Bauer in Elgin, Ill. They lived in Mankato and Byron before making their home in North Mankato. Scott worked at Veldman’s Inc., currently Mankato Implement, for five years and M & S Equipment in Byron for five years. They moved to North Mankato in 1986. Scott has been employed for the past 17 years with Micro-Trak Systems in Eagle Lake, serving as President and CEO.
Scott was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and several financial boards. He served as chairman of the Byron Swimming Pool Association. Scott was a past president of the Mankato and Byron Jaycees, served as State Vice President of Minnesota Jaycees for two years, and received their highest honor, the Jaycee Senatorship. Scott was active with the Mankato Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of the Agriculture Committee. He was past president of the Board of Directors of the YMCA. He served on the Board of Directors for Camp Friendship and FEMA (Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association). He participated in community softball and basketball activities and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Jeri of North Mankato; three children: Jamie of San Diego, Calif., Andrew of Mankato, and Marni of North Mankato; mother, Berniece Veldman of Hollandale; brother, Mike Veldman and wife Debbie of Hollandale; two sisters: Patricia Bosacker and husband Del of Minnetonka, and Rebecca Melby and husband Paul of Brainerd; father- and mother-in-law, Gene and Audrey Bauer of Naples, Fla.; brothers-in-law: Brett Bauer of Atlanta, Ga., and Tod Bauer and wife Lisa of South Elgin, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
